Valley picks up first win in home opener.
The Valley College Monarchs may have lost the coin flip Saturday, but dominated Cerritos College to win the season opener at Monarch Stadium 23-7.
After a successful 9-2 season and a bowl win last year, the Monarchs were looking to build on the momentum, and they did. Less than 6 minutes into first game of the season, wide receiver Brandon Brooks scored the first touchdown of the game. The Monarchs did not stop there, with 6 minutes left until the end of the first half, sophomore wide Ahkil Crumpton scored another touchdown for the Monarchs, making the score to 14-0. Crumpton scored another touchdown on a 35-yard catch, pushing the score to 20-0 by the end of the half.
With 5.43 left in fourth, Valley scored on a 30-yard field goal, bringing the score to 23-0. The Talon Marks finally scratched the scoreboard with touchdown with 1.23 in the game, making the final score 23-7.
