Only 10 hours after a shooting killed one and injured three at Northern Arizona University’s Flagstaff campus, a shooting at Texas Southern University claimed the life of an 18-year-old freshman and injured another victim. It was the second shooting incident on the Texas Southern campus in 12 hours; near midnight Thursday, a student was injured by gunfire outside the same dormitory where the fatal shooting was to take place Friday morning.
Two persons of interest have been detained in the morning shooting, but the shooter remains at large.
Additionally, Jefferson Community and Technical College in Lexington, Kentucky underwent a lockdown today in response to a shooting scare that proved to be a false alarm.
President Barack Obama, meanwhile, met with families of the victims of the Umpqua Community College shooting that killed 10 and injured nine in Oregon eight days ago. In advance of his visit to the small town of Roseburg, Oregon, pro-gun and anti-Obama sentiments were aired in venues such as a Facebook page named, “Defend Roseburg, Deny Barack Obama.” At press time, the page had more than 8,000 followers.
