LAVC’s Philosophy department will be hosting their annual 5K run on May 10.

The event will begin at 9am at Valley’s main entrance on Fulton Ave and is being sponsored by the ASU. There is no registration fee and the first 50 students to show up, will receive a nifty free tank top. A raffle will also be held at the event giving participants the chance to win one of the six gift cards from either Starbucks or Subway. Snacks and drinks will also be provided. A 5k run is roughly about 3.1 miles and can be completed by running, jogging, walking, or a combination of all three.

The department held their first run in the Fall semester of 2013, but had little turn out due to poor weather conditions. The department was left with about 50 shirts from last years event and instead of letting those go to waste, the department decided to call this semester’s event, the 1st Annual Philosophy Department Spring Redux.

“My focus is more on quality, my concern is not on [the] number,” said event coordinator Christopher Pallotti. “It’s not about the number, its about having people interested in celebrating college life through comradery.”

This year the department hopes there will be a  better turn out and encourages students to come with friends and family. The event will be a great end of semester stress reliever and students of all physical abilities are welcomed.

“[Students] can expect to have a jubilant vibe,” said Pallotti. “People who do 5K tend do be very upbeat people.”

The event will be wheelchair accessible and students who may require additional accommodations should contact Christopher Pallotti by May 3 at (818) 947-2468. Students can email any other additional questions to pallotc@lavc.edu.
