LADY MONARCHS (4-0), AND OFF TO A GOOD START

LA Valley College Women’s Basketball are off to yet another great start after this weekend’s (82-48) romp and stomp victory over the Compton Tartars.
After barely squeezing out a win (62-60) against El Camino women’s basketball team in their season opener, the Lady Monarchs now find themselves with a 4-0 record after having beaten both Ventura and Cerritos. Diamond O’Connor(24) who averages 15 points per game leads Valley in scoring, followed by Rebecca Islas(22) averaging just over 10 points per game and Lydia Pope(12) averaging just under 10 points per game.
So far this season the Lady Monarchs have outscored their opponents 267-196, averaging 66.8 points per game. Shots are finding the basket 41 percent of the time, while their 3-point shooting is successful about 30 percent of the time.
Defensively LA Valley strength seems to lie in the paint, only allowing the Compton Tartars to score only 8 points while the Lady Monarchs able to score 44 points in the paint. Diamond O’Connor led Valley College scoring an impressive 23 points in their victory over the Compton Tartars. The Lady Monarchs will host the Lady T-Birds of Merritt College at home this Friday, 09 December in the South Gym.
LA Valley Women’s Basketball will be in the Sequoia’s December 1st through the 4th for the ‘Tom Gilcrest Invitational tournament’ and then will host Merritt on December 9th at 7 pm in the South Gym at Valley College.
