Inter Club Council held an unofficial meeting on Thursday, September 18, where club representatives gathered and made announcements about different events that will be held.
The half-hour long gathering started with Joan Hurwit, an advisor for the Associated Student Union (ASU), announcing that no clubs have been chartered yet, but have until September 30 to do so. All of the clubs either needed turn in paperwork, signatures, or their ASO fees.
“As soon as you turn them into us, we are going to be so excited to charter you,” said Hurwit to club representatives.
Clubs including the Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA), Echo Advocates and Socialist Club were present. They announced and discussed events they will be holding with Hurwit.
The ASU Advisor said that if a club has a fundraiser and takes the money to the Business Office to get a receipt within one day of the fundraiser, the ASU will make a donation, matching the funds collected.
Then, it was announced that the LAVC Foundation will be holding a fundraiser to benefit the homeless on Wednesday, September 24. The event will take place on the Student Services Lawn between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
“Come out to support our campus programs and partners in an effort to raise funds to benefit homeless students on campus,” says the flyer that was handed out during the meeting.
Baked goods, snacks and lunch will be sold, along with a canned food drive.
There will be a math success workshop for students who need help in math. It will take place on Monday, September 22 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. LARC 227.
The GSA will also be holding an unofficial event at the Electric Dusk Drive-In, screening The Wizard of Oz on September 27 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will be $7.50 to commemorate the movie’s 75th anniversary. Tickets can be purchased at www.electricduskdrivein.com.
“Bring your friends, carpool,” said Kevin Buitrago, GSA’s ICC representative.
