XV has been a longtime coming, first announced as Verses XIII way back in 2006, then re-titled to Final Fantasy XV in 2013, the latest in the long-running franchise is finally hitting store shelves. With a promising combat system and an entourage of new characters sporting the usual incredibly styled hair XV should be on the shopping list of any JRPG fan this holiday.
The NES Classic is perhaps the most anticipated Nintendo release this year, designed as a mini version of the classic 8-bit console the classic is packed with 30 of the greatest games from that early Nintendo era, with titles like Super Mario Bros 3 and the original Legend of Zelda the classic makes for a perfect stocking stuffer, throw in a second controller and its sure to please just about everyone this holiday.
Following this past summer’s Pokémon Go and the fanatical following that ensued the mainline series returns in top form to Nintendo’s handheld. The new Alola region makes for a nice trip to the tropics amidst the chills of the coming winter, plus Pokémon’s appeal is so universal it makes a great gift for gamers of all ages.
While it launched rather quietly in early November, make no mistake PS4 Pro is the system to buy for future proofing your setup. While the standard PS4 and Pro share the same titles, the Pro brings significantly more power under the hood enabling, in some cases native 4K gaming. This makes a perfect pairing with that new TV set you may have picked up during Black Friday.
Microsoft’s Xbox business has been on somewhat of a kick these past 12 months and with the introduction of this new S model of the flagship console they’re poised to continue that stride. The new box which shrinks the console by 40% and adds a 4K capable Blu-Ray player to the mix, this new form factor coupled with a strong holiday lineup that includes favorites like Forza Horizon 3 and Gears of War 4 and the S makes for a great console to bundle up with over the break.
