The Associated Student Union (ASU) Spirit Committee will be hosting a Giving Back event where club members and other Valley students can drop-off donations for those less fortunate.
The Giving Back event will happen on Monday, Dec. 1, at the Fireside room from 2 to 4 pm.
According to ASU Spirit Committee Chair, Sandy Aparicio, everything that will be collected will go towards two organizations, LAVC Homeless and Hope of the Valley Rescue Mission.
“We decided to make a food can drive to give back to the community that is less fortunate,” Aparicio said.
The committee, form of 28 members who will volunteer during the event, will accept toys, clothes, canned and seal off food products. Some examples would be, dried fruit, oatmeal, canned vegetables, canned tuna fish, dry milk, socks, under clothing, etc.
On Wednesday, Nov. 19, during Club Day, which was themed as “Harvest Festival,” Valley College clubs also collected supplies from students who wished to donate to their food drive.
But if donors were not able to attend to Club Day and speak to the distinct clubs Valley has, those who attend to the drive will receive an incentive for their generous donation.
“We will be providing punch and cookies available for every person that donates,” Aparicio said.
As this is the first time the ASU Spirit Committee organized a donation drive, they will be using $150 of the ASU account for the inducements to provide to those who donate at least an item.
